Canyon’s Commitment to Children

10/06/11 Gorinchem, The Netherlands – At Canyon we feel it is our responsibility, as a corporation, to take initiatives that will positively contribute to the world around us. Children are our future, and we believe in a world in which every child has the right to survival, protection, development and participation.

It was announced last fall that Canyon was committed to donate 5% of profits made from sales of the Limited Edition to a child aid project, with the hope to give children a chance in society and to make a lasting, long term difference on a community. “Such project is an excellent opportunity for Canyon to empower underprivileged children and to positively contribute to their future. It is a cause that is very close to our heart”, confirms Catherine Lazure-Guinard, Communications Manager.

Early this year, Canyon was pleased to not only be able to contribute to one but two projects. Indeed, the money gathered for children exceeded expectations, and Canyon was able to complete classrooms for the Green Valley School in Uganda, as well as to provide clean water for a remote mountain school in Thailand.

“We are proud to contribute to the well-being of children and their family”, said Geert van Dijk, VP Sales & Marketing at Canyon. “Whether it is by providing clean water, access to education or shelter, we are committed to make a difference on a community.”

Canyon carefully selects organizations and projects that are fully integrated in local culture and structures, in areas such as health care, education, safe water, housing and family support. Partnering with Net4Kids Aid Foundation for this exciting project was a logical choice for Canyon.

The Dutch non-profit organization helped Canyon with its mission to help getting children off the streets and provide them with opportunities for a better future. Thanks to Net4Kids’s model, Canyon will have the opportunity to be directly involved with sponsored projects, and to follow progress made on a regular basis. “We stand for a personal approach, with transparency and accountability. Projects recently completed:

Green Valley School in Uganda
This project helps orphans and widows by offering them education and a lasting future. Residential areas are also built on the school premises; meaning over 500 needy children can also have a safe home. The school will also provide children with daily meals and school uniforms.

Clean water for a mountain school in Thailand

In collaboration with the Samsara Foundation, Canyon collaborated to the installation of a water purification machine, and a cement water collecting tank to store the rainwater during the rainy season to use in the dry season. Children studying at the school now have access to clean drinking water.

Po nekaj letih premora se je vrnilo razvpito tekmovanje Support your local DJ, ki letos praznuje svojo peto reinkarnacijo. Predtekmovanje letos poteka v spremenjeni obliki, saj se je glasovanje za izbor finalistov v celoti preselilo na splet. Ker se glasovanje zaključi 18. maja 2011 ob polnoči, imate do tega datuma še možnost, da s svojimi glasovi vplivate, kdo od domačih izbrancev bo 10. junija v ljubljanski diskoteki Inbox nastopil ob boku uveljavljenih gostov. Na technu bosta svoje veščine in trike razkazovala naš stari znanec iz Anglije Paul Langley in domači technomag Peter B., na fusion plesišču pa bosta nasvete delila Nemec Ronski Speed in slovenski trance-o-matic Elyksir.

Finalni izbor bo potekal po že uveljavljenem konceptu, tako da bodo finalisti nastopili v t.i. "prime-time" terminu, glasovanje pa bo potekalo v drugi polovici večera. Kot protiutež navijaškemu glasovanju bo svoje delo opravila tudi strokovna komisija, tako da se bodo glasovi ljudstva in glasovi komisije na koncu sešteli. Natančna pravila glasovanja so objavljena na spletni strani www.syld.si.

Nowadays world’s perception of fun, especially in clubbing, is the DJ as a driver of your party and the people on a dance floor in front of him. True DJ rules a dance floor masterfully – seduces and leads you into dance vastness.

In the DJ’s world dominated by men, three brands will turn this record and set a challenge that will be exclusive to female DJ’s. CANYON DJ GIRL WANTED is the first regional project that invites all female DJ’s from local regions (Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina) to apply for the first contest that seeks a female as the best club DJ. CANYON, CLUB MANSION and RNB CONFUSION are inviting you on an unforgettable musical journey in which the three most skilled will win valuable sponsors’ prizes, and gigs in the best clubs and festivals in Croatia.

At CANYON Croatia ( http://www.facebook.com/canyon.hrvatska ) audience will be able to support their favorites and vote for them. Audience voting via FB likes will be held from 04. - 19. May, on Canyon Croatia FB Fun Page. The five outstanding dancing mixes from female DJs will be decided by the jury and the audience. Five chosen DJs will be introduced in their club version at the Mansion club (Zagreb, Jarun) where they will perform live in front of the jury members to present their skills in a half-hour presentation. Assessment of skills with DJ’s stand (mixing techniques, flow mix, mix idea, style – personal approach) will be done live at the Mansion club, where jury will decide on the most skillful DJs. Club gathering will be organized on Wednesday 27th of April in Mansion club (former Piranha) on a big CANYON GIRL DJ WANTED party with special guest MISS DJ CANDY from London.

We’ve all been there. Rocking out our dance moves on the nightclub’s dance floor, but you have no ideas which song it is they are playing and there is no DJ in the neighborhood. Well, the answer is Shazam! Shazam is an iPhone app that tells you exactly what song is playing from any speakers.

It is the quickest and easiest way to discover more about music. Just hold your phone up to the song to identify the track, buy it, check out the videos, get the lyrics, share it with friends – and more!

2. Angry birds
I don’t know what it is about Angry Birds that has got me so addicted, but seriously, but seriously I played that game 1000 of times.

With this child friendly game you catapulting a furious little birdie towards a light-fingered pig and aiming to kill. The crux of Angry Birds is very simple. A group of thieving pigs has stolen the birds’ eggs, making them, understandably, pretty pissed off. They want them back, but apparently the only way to do this is to use themselves as pilots who smash down the pigs’ defenses and ultimately destroy the pigs.

The birds come in indifferent shapes and sizes and they all have different talents. Some lay explosive eggs, others can boomerang round a target and the little blue ones, weirdly, can split into three separate smaller birds.

If you can’t get enough of the game, Angry birds is having also special editions as RIO and Angry bird Season.

3. Facebook

White Iphone4

Apple’s much-awaited white iPhone 4 will finally be made available this spring, reports published by Bloomberg and Reuters claim.

The white version of Apple’s flagship smartphone was originally introduced by chief executive Steve Jobs in June last year. The white iPhone 4’s release was slated for July last year, but some manufacturing issues delayed its release.

The company said that the white iPhone 4 was more challenging to manufacture that previously thought.
